Pete Doherty once offered role in ‘Eastenders’ – and regrets turning it down
Libertines frontman Pete Doherty has claimed that he was once offered a role in Eastenders. As reported in The Mirror, Doherty said he was offered a part in the long-running show, but turned it down – something he says he was later “disappointed” about. He said: “There are a few things that have fallen through over the years that I was a bit disappointed about – opportunities that came up that I didn’t take.“I was going to get a part in EastEnders at one point. It was around this time that the Libertines re-formed too.”He also claimed that he turned down an offer of £100,000 to go on Celebrity Big Brother.Last month, Doherty revealed that he hopes The Libertines‘ long-awaited fourth album should be completed by the end of 2022.Doherty was speaking to NME just after they stepped off stage from their opening performance on The Other Stage at Glastonbury 2022 last weekend, where the singer and guitarist spoke highly of the current mood in the camp – which was reflected in the joyous and buoyant nature of their set.“The chemistry is working to the original chemical formula, with the prosperity, harmony and advancement of the Albion’s dream and promise,” Doherty told NME.Looking to the future, Doherty confirmed that writing sessions in Jamaica were pencilled in for work on the long-awaited follow-up to 2015’s ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth‘.Having previously told NME that the record looked set to have an eclectic mix of styles in the same vein as The Clash’s ‘Sandinista’, Doherty explained: “There are lots of things on the table – some really good, strong and melodic rock’n’roll songs.

The Libertines share update on Pete Doherty’s health, confirm London shows will go ahead
The Libertines have updated fans on the status of Pete Doherty‘s health, and have confirmed that tonight’s (February 25) show at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town will go ahead. The band were forced to pull out of their Bristol date yesterday, after the co-frontman “developed a high fever and shortness of breath”.A doctor was called to his aide, and although he tested negative for COVID-19, he was diagnosed with an unspecified “respiratory infection which [required] immediate treatment”. He was advised not to take part in last night’s show “under any circumstances”, leading to its cancellation.Though The Libertines are yet to advise Bristol fans on when (or if) their gig will be rescheduled, they posted on Instagram earlier today that Doherty’s treatment has thus far been successful, and that he “has been allowed to travel to London today and tonight’s show will therefore go ahead”.A post shared by The Libertines (@thelibertines)“Our sincere apologies go to everyone who had tickets for Bristol, especially after all the disruption already caused by the pandemic,” they wrote. “We want to thank our fans for being so understanding and all the good wishes Peter has received.”The Libertines are currently wrapping up their rescheduled ‘Giddy Up A Ding-Dong Tour’, with London slated as the last stop.
