Stormzy and Maya Jama confirm split: “We tried, and it didn’t work out”
Stormzy and Maya Jama have confirmed their split in an Instagram story. The rapper and TV presenter originally started dating in 2014, but called it quits in 2019; they reunited in August last year.Taking to social media, the duo began: “Hey guys, we’ve been laughing whilst drafting this because we never, ever, in a million years thought we’d be the couple announcing a breakup, but for the sake of clarity and, more importantly, to allow us the space and grace that’s needed for us both to be able to navigate this next bit of our lives with peace, we thought it might be best to.”They then explained that they’ve spent “this past year trying our best to make it work; however, we recently decided to call it quits,” adding: “We were 21 and 20 when we first met – both at the beginning of our careers – and spent five years growing together and then five years growing separately, so this final attempt required a whole lot of figuring out, relearning, and unlearning. We tried, and it didn’t work, and that’s OK.”Stormzy and Maya Jama have just released a statement announcing their break-up pic.twitter.com/fmzRZzHdoO— UK Rap Daily (@UKRapDaily) July 17, 2024The pair clarified that “we still think the absolute world of each other, we still care and respect each other, we are still grateful for the time we’ve had together, and we are still friends and will always be friends (so if you see us having a lil catch-up at The BRITs or something, don’t cause a fuss, we are dawgs!).”“Announcing this feels so dramatic, but we’re doing it so that it kind of takes away the drama and avoids speculation and rumours,” they continued.

Young Thug trial delayed further after judge removed
Young Thug‘s trial has been delayed after its judge has been removed over misconduct allegations. The removal was prompted by the rapper’s lawyer Brian Steel, who was arrested mid-trial for alleged contempt of court in June.Steel was reportedly held in contempt for suggesting an alleged conversation between Judge Ural Glanville, witness Kenneth Copeland and prosecutors led to Copeland being intimidated or coerced ahead of taking the stand.Copeland himself was held in contempt last Friday (June 7) for suddenly refusing to testify despite being granted immunity. Now, Steel has filed a motion accusing the judge of holding the “improper” meeting without including defendants and their attorneys. He has requested Glanville to be replaced with another judge to oversee the trial.Meanwhile, Glanville announced in a Monday hearing without jurors (on break until July 8) that he would provide the transcript of his meeting with Copeland, cancel the next hearing “indefinitely” and send the attorney’s motions to recuse to another judge. The Atlanta rapper was originally arrested in May 2022 on gang-related charges and was later charged with seven additional felonies. He was arrested alongside fellow rapper Gunna, who are both involved with the musical collective YSL (Young Stoner Life), which has been accused of being “a criminal street gang”.Both men have denied their charges, with Young Thug having his bail denied three times.Young Thug’s case has been significantly notable for the use of his rap lyrics to accuse him of his YSL gang affiliation in trial.

Childish Gambino shares new single ‘In The Night’ feat. Jorja Smith and Amaarae
Childish Gambino has shared a new single with Jorja Smith and Amaarae called ‘In The Night’ – check it out below.Shared this morning (July 16), the new track is the latest from Donald Glover’s forthcoming album ‘Bando Stone & The New World’ – his sixth studio release, last under the Childish Gambino moniker and expected to be his most eclectic material yet.Initially, Glover dropped the lead single ‘Lithonia’ at the start of the month, which incorporated hints of punk and rock genres. Now, he has shared the second teaser of the new LP, an equally experimental song called ‘In The Night’ which is a glitchy dance track that incorporates hints of dancehall.“I’m just a country boy from Georgia / Your body’s made for California, my love / Your man does nothin’ but adore ya / But I wonder, what would he say?” Glover sings in the opening lines, as a smooth cadence and groove-dominated drum rhythm start to gather momentum. “You look so good, I can’t afford ya / He kissed your lips it looked like torture, for you / Just ’cause you’re sweet don’t make you loyal.”As it progresses, Jorja Smith delivers some hypnotic, reverb-soaked vocals, before Amaarae adds to the dance feel with her autotone-inspired lines.Check it out below. The ‘Bando Stone & The New World’ album will also serve as the official soundtrack for a new movie of the same name.

Listen to Killer Mike address his Grammy arrest on new song, ‘Humble Me’
Killer Mike has dropped new song ‘Humble Me’ – tackling his recent arrest at the 2024 Grammys. The Atlanta rapper released ‘Humble Me’ and an accompanying music video hours after winning Album of the Year at this year’s BET Awards for his sixth studio album, ‘Michael‘. The striking black-and-white video shows Mike rapping to the camera while police gradually remove his jewellery and handcuff him.Through his lyrics, he drew parallels between his recent arrest and the experience of civil rights activists as well as the Biblical story of Daniel in the lions’ den. While reflecting on the February 4 incident, he rapped: “I won at the Grammys for spitting my grammar / Did that for Atlanta, bruh / swept up like a janitor / Got sent to the slammer / Treat me like an animal or some kind of Hannibal / Vicious and cannibal.”He continued: “I walked out the door with my head up and handcuffs with pride / ‘Cause all of my heroes wore handcuffs / The FBI shot some of them and they died.” Mike’s son Mikael ‘Pony Boy’ Render also made a cameo while his dad rapped: “So I went to sleep as free as could be / and the next day my son got a kidney” – confirming that his son had a life-saving kidney transplant a day after the Grammys.Earlier this year, Mike was detained by Los Angeles police, which stemmed from an altercation with a security guard outside the Grammy pre-telecast.

Diddy allegedly sent death threats to magazine editor over cover photos
Vibe magazine editor Danyel Smith has claimed Diddy sent her death threats for refusing to show him his cover photos. In an essay penned for the New York Times, Smith recounted the incident which originally occurred in 1997, when Diddy (real name Sean Combs) was set to star as Vibe‘s cover star for his album ‘No Way Out’.However, when Smith denied Diddy access to his cover photos prior to the magazine’s release as per their policies, Diddy allegedly showed up at the Vibe offices with “two associates.” Diddy and his crew reportedly went through “various cubicles and offices” to find the photos; Smith was “shuttled … from office to office” so she could safely leave the building and head home. She accused Diddy of sending a threatening call to her the next day; after reiterating it was not in their policies to let artists see cover photos before release, she alleged Diddy “told me, as I’ve retold hundreds of times over the years, that he would see me ‘dead in the trunk of a car.’ Not missing a beat, I told him he needed to take that threat back.”Smith claimed Diddy told her “fuck you”; when she said she would notify her lawyer, Diddy allegedly went on to say: “I know where you are right now.” Upon Smith’s lawyer talking to Diddy, Smith said she was sent an apology. However, the following theft of the heavy servers holding the Vibe cover photos unsettled her.“I had reason to fear for my life,” Smith wrote in the introduction to her piece.
