Blossoms are teasing a new single they say “sounds like Dire Straits, George Michael and Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel.”Frontman Tom Ogden took to a video he posted on Twitter to share details of the track ‘The Sulking Poet’, which is due to drop tomorrow (March 24), before sharing footage of the band performing the song in the studio.Ogden said the title came from a “Blossoms fan page, which referred to me as the sulking poet”.It follows on from previous singles ‘Ode To NYC’, ‘Care For’ and the title track from forthcoming new album ‘Ribbon Around The Bomb’.New single. It follows on from the record’s title track and last year’s ‘Care For’.“This song is a love letter to New York City,” Blossoms wrote while announcing ‘Ode To NYC’ alongside footage of themselves recording it in the studio.

Blossoms have today (January 25) unveiled details of their new album, ‘Ribbon Around The Bomb’ – you can listen to the album’s title track below.It will be the Stockport five-pieces fifth album and is set for release on April 29.Blossoms have today announced their brand-new, fourth studio album Ribbon Around The Bomb, which is set for release on the 29th April.Speaking about the new album and single, the group’s Tom Ogden says: “While on tour in 2019 in Mexico, I visited Frida Kahlo’s house. Looking at her paintings on show, someone had described one of them as being like a ‘ribbon around a bomb’.“I immediately thought that it was a great title for a song and album because of the imagery that it evoked in my mind.

Blossoms have shared a new clip of them playing The Smiths’ ‘Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now’ with Rick Astley – you can watch the video below.Blossoms and Astley teamed up earlier this week at the former’s gig in London to cover a pair of Smiths songs, with the artists subsequently announcing two Smiths covers shows in Manchester and London next month.Ahead of those two gigs, Blossoms have shared new rehearsal footage of them performing the Smiths classic ‘Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now’ with Astley.During the footage, Astley suggests that they each drink a shot of Jägermeister before attempting the cover.Drink taken, the band and the singer are then seen jamming their way through ‘Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now’ – you can watch the clip

Blossoms and Rick Astley have announced they’ll be teaming up for a pair of shows that will celebrate the songs of The Smiths.It comes after Blossoms surprised fans during the first of three nights at London’s O2 Kentish Town Forum last night (September 13) by inviting Astley on stage to run through a selection of Smiths covers.Taking place at Manchester’s Albert Hall on October 8 and London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on October 9, the shows will see Blossoms become Astley’s backing band for a full set of theirs and fans’ most-loved Smiths songs.“The Smiths have always meant so much to Blossoms, with even their rainiest songs complete with wry humour and soul-reaching musicianship and melody,” Blossoms said in a statement.

The Magic Gang begin a run of live dates this week as support for Blossoms, and the band have spoken to NME about the gigs and a new EP they have in the works.Tonight (August 30), the Brighton four-piece perform at Hull’s Bonus Arena to kick off the first of a handful of rescheduled dates on Blossoms’ UK tour which was postponed after its Bournemouth date in March last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.“We’re more keen than ever to connect with people,” frontman Jack Kaye told NME at this month’s Boardmasters Festival, explaining what fans can expect from the upcoming gigs.

Blossoms have surprised a group of school kids in Stockport by giving an impromptu performance at their leavers day festival.On Monday (July 26), students at St Thomas’ Church of England Primary School in Heaton, Stockport, were treated to a gig from the ‘Your Girlfriend’ hitmakers, along with a Q&A afterwards.It comes after Year 6 pupils had written a letter to the band – who are local to the area, with all five of the band members hailing from Stockport – a few weeks ago asking if they’d perform at the event.According to Manchester Evening News, Blossoms called up the school themselves to accept the invitation.

Blossoms have told NME that they have completed work on their fourth album.The Stockport band spoke to NME backstage at the weekend’s COVID pilot gig at Sefton Park, where they discussed progress on the follow-up to 2020’s acclaimed ‘Foolish Loving Spaces’.“Yeah, we’ve done it, so it’s recorded and we’re sorting all the other stuff out now, like the artwork and all that sort of stuff,” frontman Tom Ogden told NME.

Blossoms‘ COVID-19 pilot gig in Liverpool has been shared online, showing what the return of live events could look like.It’s the second of a two-day event – alongside a clubbing gig that took place yesterday (May 1) – that doesn’t require attendees to socially distance, wear a face mask or have a vaccine passport to get into the venue.Liverpool’s Sefton Park is playing host to 5,000 people – it usually holds 7,500 – and the only requirement to attend was a negative lateral flow test produced the day before. People will then be asked to take a second test a few days later to help monitor the rate of infection from the nights.The gig – which also features The Lathums and Zuzu – is being organised by promoters Festival Republic.
