The Damned have been forced to cancel their Glastonbury 2022 set this weekend after a number of positive COVID-19 tests were recorded in the band’s camp.The band had been due to headline the festival’s Avalon Stage on Friday (June 24) following sets from Sugababes and Nick Mulvey.The Damned previously told their fans on Saturday (June 18) that a member of the band had tested positive, forcing the cancellation of their planned gigs on Saturday and yesterday (June 20).The latest update from the band has been issued this afternoon (June 21). “Further to our previous updates, there have been more positive COVID tests in the Damned camp and consequently we’re having to withdraw from all remaining June appearances, including Bath, Glastonbury and the Die Artze show in Germany,” they wrote on Twitter.Apologies to all the fans who were looking forward to seeing The Damned, we were looking forward to seeing you all too ! Until the next time..”The Field of Avalon team have subsequently confirmed that Reef will now headline the Avalon Stage in place of The Damned.“With massive regret, The Damned have been forced to withdraw from Glastonbury due to COVID,” organisers said in a statement.

The Damned, has died at the age of 70.James’ death was announced via his official Facebook account on Thursday night (March 6). A cause of death was not revealed, though the post notes that he died “peacefully” with his family by his side.The post also reflects on the punk icon’s legendary career, including his illustrious credit as a writer on “the first ever UK punk single ‘New Rose’.

Netflix spy thriller Black Doves sees an unlikely guest star from the world of music: The Damned’s drummer Rat Scabies.The show sees Keira Knightley play the wife of the UK Defence Secretary who learns that her secret identity as a spy is in danger when her lover is killed in an incident involving London’s criminal underworld, and Ben Whishaw’s character is sent to protect her.Sarah Lancashire also stars in the six-episode show, which is streaming on the platform now, but music fans can rejoice in the presence of the legendary punk figure Scabies too.From the first episode, the drummer plays Bingo, the owner of a music shop who may have clandestine connections to a crime syndicate.Black Doves has been getting strong reviews from across the board, currently sitting on a 98 per cent critics score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.Rat Scabies is having a big year, after recently rejoining The Damned, one of the most influential bands of the UK’s original punk scene. Alongside David Vanian, Captain Sensible and Paul Gray, the band are currently in the middle of their first tour together with that line-up for over 35 years.The band play Wolverhampton on Tuesday (December 10), with remaining dates in Bristol, Southampton, Eastbourne, Cambridge and winding up at London’s Roundhouse on December 18.

The Damned have announced a 2024 UK tour and the return of their ’80s line-up featuring drummer Rat Scabies.The band – comprising David Vanian, Captain Sensible, Rat Scabies and Paul Gray – will perform 12 shows across the UK next year, marking the first time the line-up has played together in 35 years.The tour will open at Newcastle’s NX on December 4, followed by dates in Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol, Cambridge and more, before closing out the run at London’s Roundhouse on December 18.Tickets will go on general sale this Friday (November 24) at 10am GMT from here. The Damned’s Captain Sensible has spoken about his relationship with Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, and how the late bassist “saved” the band.The singer-songwriter was speaking in a new interview when he shared anecdotes about his time working with metal veteran, and explained that he credits him with preventing the The Damned from disbanding.The musicians first collaborated after Captain Sensible, Lemmy and former Damned member Rat Scabies performed a gig under the name Les Punks in 1976. Three years later, The Damned reformed with the Les Punks line-up for a series of demos and live performances – performing under the monikier The Doomed.Although the stint was brief, the band’s frontman credits Lemmy with encouraging the members to go on, and wishes that they had done more shows with the late bassist.“That would have been good,” he told Uncut.
