Supermarket has now been second cheapest behind Lidl for a month - and it's not Aldi
manchestereveningnews.co.ukA supermarket which became cheaper than Aldi for these shopping essentials has outdone the retailer for a fourth week. Lidl and Aldi are long-time rivals, but recently, it's Sainsbury's which is giving them a run for their money.
We reported last month how it overtook Aldi for the first time in our weekly comparison of budget basics which we've tracked since March last year.
After initially becoming the third cheapest retailer behind Lidl and Tesco for the eight items, it then moved into second place and has remained there for a month now. Sainsbury's position perhaps comes as no surprise to some customers as we've previously reported its bid to take on the budget retailer - with CEO Simon Roberts sharing his vision for it to become 'as cheap as Aldi' and admitting he was prepared to accept a fall in profits in the short term in order to ensure it stayed competitive for shoppers.
