Supermarket delivery hours extended amid coronavirus outbreak

Thousands of shoppers up and down the country have been stocking up on products in response to the spread of coronavirus in the UK.

Medicines such as ibuprofen have sold out in most stores, as well as pasta, toilet roll, hand sanitiser, and soap. Tesco has even resorted to rationing food by limiting high-demand items to five per customer.

As a result, the government has announced food deliveries will be able to take place overnight to move stock more quickly from warehouses to replenish shelves.

The government has been working with local authorities to extend the hours that deliveries can be made to supermarkets and other food retailers to help the industry cope with the response to the virus.
