Manchester United investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe is the richest person in North West, according to this year’s edition of The Sunday Times Rich List, published today (Friday) online.
That's despite the newspaper reporting that he has lost more than £6 billion this year. The 71-year-old INEOS founder and CEO grew up on a council estate in Failsworth, and started the chemical company which would make him a wealthy man in his 40s.
He recently ran the London Marathon and earlier in 2024 secured a 25% stake of his childhood football club, Manchester United.
The Sunday Times has listed Sir Jim's wealth in 2024 at £23.519bn. That's a drop of £6.169bn in the last year. However, he still has nearly double the wealth of runner-up, Michael Platt.
