Ballroom queen Shirley Ballas has landed an exciting new project as she's set to work on a Hollywood movie alongside her talented son, Mark Ballas. The Strictly Come Dancing head judge is teaming up with Mark, famed for his stint on Dancing With The Stars, for an upcoming romantic comedy flick titled The Light Fantastic. The duo will take the reins of choreography in this film that boasts a lineup including BAFTA-nominated Rupert Everett, 'Misfits' actor Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Jeremy Irvine of 'War Horse' fame, and 'Bad Education' star Layton Williams. The Light Fantastic spins the tale of 30-something gay firefighter Jason, portrayed by Jeremy Irvine, who dreams of sashaying his way into professional ballroom dancing.

Drawing inspiration from a true story and set against the iconic backdrop of Blackpool — a mecca for ballroom aficionados — the film captures Jason's struggle to shake off the rigid conventions of the dance world while under the scrupulous gaze of his traditional dance teacher Reynolds, played by Rupert Everett.

In other news, Shirley opened up about her health concerns in a September interview, revealing that she might be heading for back surgery owing to a degenerative spine disorder which she had been keeping under wraps. The Strictly icon, aged 64, explained, "I've got this disorder in my spine, degenerative spine, which I haven't really talked about with anybody yet.

But it is three types of operation. And I don't want to do the operations, so I am doing anti-inflammatory." She's determined to delay the surgery for as long as she can through alternative treatments, reports the Mirror.
