Commuters travelling via the motorway or trains have been issued a warning as Storm Debi batters parts of the UK today (Monday November 13).

A number of weather warnings are in place today, with an amber alert for wind in place for parts of north-west England from 10am until 4pm, covering coastal areas from Liverpool up to Whitehaven.

A yellow warning of wind is also in place for Greater Manchester - covering most of the north of England, midlands and north Wales - until 6pm tonight.

This storm is set to bring 50mph to 60mph winds across north Cheshire, Lancashire and southern Cumbria between 9am and 4pm. Gales could reach 60mph to 70mph on routes to the west of the M6 over the Pennines with occasional outbreaks of heavy rain.
