Storm Babet flood map shows areas in Scotland urged to 'protect themselves'

Scotland is beset with flood warnings today as Met Office forecasters have warned Storm Babet could unleash up to 10 inches of rain.Angus and Aberdeenshire will be the worst hit areas by the storm which has sparked a rare red warning.

The national forecaster has warned of a danger to life from flood water, extensive damage to homes and businesses and severely disrupted travel conditions.Fourteen flood alerts are in effect across much of the country by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

The agency has issued eight flood warnings - a more urgent alert which indicates imminent flooding requiring "immediate action".The agency issues three different alerts - flood alerts, flood warnings, and severe flood warnings - with the most severe warning not yet issued amid Storm Babet.Flood warnings have been issued in areas in Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City, Dumfries and Galloway, Dundee and Angus, OrkneyAreas.

The warnings are issued three to six hours in advance of forecast flooding.SEPA urges people in the more severe flood warning areas to take measures to protect themselves and their property.
