Steven Spielberg has set a new Oscars record as the first person to be nominated for Best Director in six different decades.Spielberg achieved the distinction after receiving his latest nomination for the award for West Side Story on Tuesday.Spielberg was first nominated for Best Director in 1978 with Close Encounters of the Third Kind, followed by Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1982 and E.T.
the Extra-Terrestrial in 1983. He won his first Oscar for Best Director in 1994 for Schindler's List, and was victorious again in 1999 with Saving Private Ryan.

In addition to the directing accolade, the new West Side Story received nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Costume Design, Achievement in Sound, Production Design and Cinematography.West Side Story is an adaptation of the beloved musical, which was also made into a movie in 1961 starring Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, and Rita Moreno.
