Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Steven Gerrard insists his side were up against a Benfica team worthy of the Champions League as they lost two late goals to draw 2-2.
Strikes from Scott Arfield and Kemar Roofe had the Ibrox side cruising towards the last 32 of the Europa League but the visitors rallied late as Goncalo Ramos and Pizzi found the net to nick a point.
Despite the disappointment, the Govan side are only one win away from the knockout stages after Standard Liege found a late winner against Lech Poznan in Group D's other encounter.
Gerrard expressed a need to keep the context of the group into perspective as they remain top on their head to head record with the Portuguese giants - and insisted Benfica are worth a seat at Europe's top table.
