Back in 2016 there was a young Scottish talent that was being tipped to have a shot at reaching the very top of the game. A playmaker with excellent vision, technical ability and a knack for finding the back of the net.

That young Scot was then Kilmarnock prospect and current St Mirren star Greg Kiltie. Having come through the Rugby Park youth ranks, the talented youngster was making an instant impact on the field for Killie.

He was also making a huge impression on the national youth set up, progressing nicely through the ranks before scoring a hugely impressive six goals in nine caps for the Scotland Under-19’s.Then came the injuries.First a hamstring issue that required surgery in 2016.Then a broken ankle in Killie’s final home game of the 2016/17 season against Ross County, a blow which ruled him out of the Toulon Tournament with Scotland’s Under-20’s.After that a knee injury kept him on the treatment table for another lengthy spell as the luckless playmaker couldn’t catch a fitness break.Even now that he’s fully fit and firing on all cylinders for the Saints, Kiltie revealed questions still get asked about his injuries after so many setbacks.Thankfully for the 25-year-old, at the moment he’s been able to lay all those fears to rest as he looks to make up for lost time in Paisley.Speaking to Express Sport, Kiltie said: “I feel that whenever I speak to anybody, they ask me if I’m happy to be back playing after my injuries.

But I feel it was years ago when I had my problems.“I have played a lot of games and hopefully I can continue doing that and drop that tag that I’m always injured.“That’s when I was 20/21 - four years ago.
