Eamonn Brophy insists making top six is in St Mirren's hands ahead of three 'massive' games

Eamonn Brophy insists it’s a “huge positive” for St Mirren to have their top six fate in their own hands. And the Saints striker revealed he’s putting in extra work in training to ensure he’s fighting fit for their huge remaining three Premiership fixtures before the split.

Last season the Scotland international missed two months of pre-split action with a broken foot, with the Buddies going on to miss out on a top half finish on goal difference alone.

Just two more goals would have made all the difference, and this season the 26-year-old is determined to help fire the Paisley club past their top six rivals - starting on Saturday against Dundee United - and avoid another heart-breaking near-miss.Speaking exclusively to Renfrewshire Live Sport, Brophy said: “We’ve got three massive games and it’s in our own hands, which is a huge positive.“Taking away the Rangers game, the other two are against teams around us in the table in Motherwell and Dundee United.“If we win those three games we will be in the top six, it’s as simple as that.“The Dundee game it was great to get almost 90 minutes.

Then against Hearts I got 90 minutes again.“I was tiring towards the end of that one, I won’t lie. It was like a basketball game at times.“But I feel I’m getting back to full fitness and I’m working hard, doing a bit extra in training to get there a bit quicker.“These three games are massive for the club and the boys and I want to do all I can to help us reach that top six.“We’ve got the ability in the squad so there’s absolutely no reason why we can’t do it.”Brophy was back amongst the goals last Saturday night when he produced a wonderful finish to pull one back against Hearts in their breathless Scottish Cup quarter-final.The
