Spartans' late leveller keeps us focused on task ahead, says Accies boss

Hamilton Accies Women boss Robert Watson is taking positives from Spartans snatching a late draw at the weekend – because it keeps his side focused.Accies led through a Chloe Muir strike, only for Spartans to grab a stoppage-time leveller in the SWPL1 clash at New Douglas Park on Sunday.But it’s four points from their last six, and moves Accies off the foot of the table, though they’re level on 10 points with bottom side Montrose – who they play in a fortnight – and Dundee United in 10th.Watson reckons everyone from eighth-placed Motherwell can be dragged into the relegation scrap, and says every single point could be crucial.He said: “It was one of those things where before the game you’d have said a draw would get us off bottom spot and you’d have taken it.“But being a goal up, going into stoppage time, it’s a bit of frustration for everyone to lose a goal that late.“However, ultimately we got off the bottom, so our objective was made, and importantly it’s back-to-back results, which we’ve not done for a long time.“Despite the frustration, there are plenty of positives to take from the match.“Had we got the win, we could have gone three points ahead of the teams round about us.“That would have been a great place to be in, and you would rather have points on the board, but we’re really mindful that there is quite a long way to go, and you wouldn’t want to be put in a false sense of security.“In a strange way, it’s keeping us focused that nothing is done, yet.“Another positive is that although we’ve not won the game, we’ve not lost it, either.“Picking up points is crucial when you’re at this stage of the season.“Not losing games is sometimes just as important as not winning a game.”Accies are back in action on March 3
