Councillors have once again issued a stark warning to ‘vandals’ who put soap in a central Manchester fountain. Exchange Square has once again become covered in bubbles after jokers poured washing up liquid into the water.

Cllr Pat Karney said that Manchester City Council has repeatedly warned pranksters of the consequences of their joke - and that those responsible will face court.

Revellers were pictured messing around in the suds earlier this evening - but what may appear to be a harmless joke costs Mancunian taxpayers, said Karney. We’ve told people repeatedly about that, and now it’s going to be court action if we’ve got the evidence.” New CCTV cameras have been installed in the area after the attraction in Exchange Square suffered a spate of these incidents over the last year. “There is a tolerance level that I think we’ve gone through now,” Karney said. “We can’t keep sending this bill to the council taxpayers in Manchester every time somebody thinks this is a bit of fun.” Karney previously warned pranksters of the consequences of their actions in August , but confirmed that the council have not yet prosecuted anybody for those incidents.
