Matt Ratana has told how a planned holiday to reunite with him will now be a visit to his grave. Matthew Ratana, from New Zealand, had been hoping to meet up with the Kiwi police officer, whose late mother Mary was Scottish, during a planned trip to the UK earlier this year.
Due to the coronavirus crisis, Matthew, 56, and his partner Angela, 54, were forced to postpone their trip. Last month Metropolitan Police officer Matt, 54, died from a gunshot wound to the chest when a handcuffed suspect opened fire at Croydon Custody Centre in south London.
Matthew, who works as a slaughterman, said: “Matt’s mum, my aunty Mary, was Scottish. She emigrated to New Zealand.“The last time I saw her, she was with Matt and I remember her strong Scottish.
