Cycling is becoming an ever more popular way of getting around, with a government study finding that pedal traffic had risen 96% since 2004.

Last month saw cycling and walking projects get a £13 million boost as authorities seek to take influence from the Netherlands and make some areas of Manchester more cycle-friendly.

With cycling becoming more common and the city set to try and improve its suitability to cyclist, we want to know whether you think cyclists should be paying insurance on the road. At present, it is not a legal requirement for cyclists to have insurance when riding on the road, although some companies do offer options for those who choose to have it.

According to the government study, an average of two cyclists died and 83 were seriously injured every week in road casualties that were reported, with a 26% rise in serious injuries since 2004.
