Shop worker tried to scam deaf pensioner out of EuroMillions ticket worth £130k
dailyrecord.co.ukA disgraceful shop worker attempted to steal over from a deaf pensioner who hit the jackpot on the EuroMillions. Narendra Gill, 52, tried to con the retired 81-year-old out of of his winnings by telling him that he'd bought a losing ticket - when it was actually worth £130,000.
Gill, of Boroughbridge Road in York, was on the till at the GT News shop at the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds when she thought she could swindle the cash prize, Camelot staff became suspicious of the worker when she phoned them and they could hear her serving shoppers in the background, Leeds Live reports.
She admitted she was an employee at the shop but claimed a customer had given her the lucky ticket. Gill later admitted theft and fraud at Leeds Crown Court and her victim was identified by police on CCTV who called him to tell him what had happened.
He told the Sun he remembered Gill giving him eight tickets and telling him they were all losers. She then called Camelot claiming she had the winning ticket just 15 minutes after he left.Recorder Dafydd Enoch QC jailed her for 28 months.He said: "People who work in these places need to hear the message that you cannot abuse your position when it comes to dealing with millions of pounds.
