'national treasure' Caledonian pinewood forest as visitors have been warned to leave their barbecues at home. Images released by the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) show burned bushes and scorched trees as the blaze spread earlier today.
Firefighters tackled the blaze after smoke was seen rising from the forest in the Cairngorms for miles around. The Cairngorms national park is a massive area of natural beauty and is protected by law.The sprawling north-east park covers a huge 1,748 square miles and is home to more than 18,000 people.Calendonian Pinewoods are also protected having suffered centuries of decline.Bosses have urged people to be careful in the forests which also contain Scots Pine and not to use barbeques or camp.
