Liam James Payne (born 29 August 1993) is an English singer and songwriter.
He rose to fame as a member of the boy band One Direction.
Payne made his debut as a singer when he auditioned for the British television series The X Factor in 2008. After being eliminated as a solo performer, he auditioned again in 2010 and was put into a group with four other contestants to form One Direction
In a sombre moment during his show, Canadian superstar Shawn Mendes honoured the memory of former One Direction star Liam Payne following his tragic passing on 16 October.
While taking the stage at the Brooklyn Paramount Theatre in New York on Friday, Shawn shared with his fans that the loss was "devastating".
Reflecting on his interactions with Liam, he said: "I got to meet Liam a couple of times and he was a beautiful soul and his eyes gleamed, it was beautiful." He opened up further by saying, "It's about grieving those we miss, the tears, and it's also about celebrating them and who they were and what they left in this world and I just want to take a second to send so much love to him wherever he is up there." Pouring his heart out, Shawn declared, "Liam, we love you.The world is crying for you brother, and we're all praying for your son and your family and I miss you man.
So this one's for you tonight, Liam, from all of us." In a poignant gesture, he performed his heartfelt ballad 'Heart Of Gold', seemingly dedicating it to the late singer, leaving fans deeply moved.
