Shamima Begum has been described as "untrustworthy and shows no remorse" by a Tory peer. It comes after she lost her latest attempt to overturn the Government's decision to take away her British citizenship.

Shamima, who left East London at the age of 15 to join Islamic State in Syria in 2015, was stripped of her citizenship on national security grounds in February 2019.

Lord Ranger of Northwood, who became a member of the House of Lords last summer, believes that the Government's main focus should be on national security.

He told his fellow peers: "The primary function of His Majesty's Government is national security and security of citizens in this country." "I have sympathy for her as an individual, but I spent last week with a man called Andrew Drury, a filmmaker who has spent much time with her, and described her in detail." According to him, Mr Drury described her as untrustworthy and showing no remorse for her actions. "As such, with the primary function here being national security, this is the case why British citizenship is being withheld from this individual." However, Green Party peer Baroness Jones of Moulsecoomb criticised Lord Ranger for "raising gossip" in the chamber.
