SFA ref chiefs are reportedly set to review audio of to discover how officials reached the decision to allow Cyriel Dessers’ controversial opening goal for Rangers in their Premier Sports Cup win over St Johnstone.
Referee Matthew MacDermid and VAR Greg Aitken have come in for stick over the handling of the second half incident. Dessers fired home but MacDermid appeared to indicate a foul had been committed on Saints stopper Jack Sanders by the Light Blues striker in the build-up.
Despite that, Aitken referred MacDermid to the monitor and he was happy no foul had been committed and allowed the goal to stand.
Furious St Johnstone players believe MacDermid blew his whistle for a foul, which could have caused them to stop play, and SFA chiefs are now going to assess if that was indeed the case along with the exchange with Aitken.
