Striker Cyriel Dessers has reportedly closed the door on a move to Atlanta United from Rangers. The Nigeria international has come in for heavy flak throughout his Ibrox tenure - despite netting 22 goals in all competitions last season and getting off to a positive start this term with three goals already for the Light Blues.
The 29-year-old has been an ever-present since Philippe Clement stepped into the hot seat last season - and has continue to lead the line with alternative striking options Danilo and Hamza Igamane ramping up their fitness behind the scenes at Auchenhowie.Speculation has swirling throughout the summer over a possible departure for Dessers from the Scottish Premiership with PAOK and Cagliari both floated as potential destinations, and now a move to Major League Soccer has reportedly been shut down by the frontman.
Italian journalist Luca Bendoni - who works as one of transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio’s team - claims a move to Atlanta was on the cards. It is claimed the American side and Rangers "had been in negotiations" over a $6m (£4.6m) deal for Dessers with and that an agreement between clubs was "close".
However, it is claimed the switch "wasn't agreed on players side".Dessers arrived in Govan last summer for a reported £4.5m fee when Michael Beale was in charge.
