Scottish football chiefs have been urged to bin their own organised displays if they really want to win the war on pyro. Ken Scott MBE, who is head of the Inspectorate for the Sports Grounds Safety Authority, made the statement to SFA and SPFL officials at Monday’s summit to tackle anti-social behaviour in and around our grounds.

There were official fireworks let off before Scotland’s final Euro 2024 qualifier with Norway at Hampden on Sunday and they are a regular occurrence at big games and domestic cup finals.

And SFA and SPFL chiefs have been told it sends out the wrong message to the fans, who they are asking to stop smuggling their own pyro into Scottish grounds.

Scott - who is one of the leading figures in the English game on stadium safety - also warned these synchronised displays come with their own risks. There have also been incidents with organised pyro within sports grounds that have caused injury.
