Sex Pistols‘ notorious anti-monarchy anthem ‘God Save The Queen’ was the biggest-selling single in the UK.The 1977 hit was reissued on Friday (June 3), and hit the top spot exactly 45 years after it was notoriously denied Number One. The protest song was officially released by the band via Virgin in May 1977.

Prince Andrew has hit the top 20 of the UK singles chart as the Queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee.Essex punk band The K--ts released their version of the children's rhyme The Grand Old Duke of York, in which they reference the prince's financial settlement to Virginia Giuffre, who brought a civil sexual assault case against him in the United States.The Duke of York has strongly denied all wrongdoing but stepped down from his royal duties when the case was ended in March this year.The song, Prince Andrew Is A Sweaty N---e', was close behind Hold My Hand by Lady Gaga, which features in the film Top Gun: The Maverick.Speaking to NME (New Musical Express), the band's frontman K--- said: "For me, having grown up with the folklore around The Sex Pistols’ God Save The Queen getting robbed of the top spot in ’77, a Jubilee celebration has always felt like it could be a good chance to air any grievances one may have with our unelected head of state and her feckless offspring." John Lydon has said that “anarchy is a terrible idea”, in contradiction to the Sex Pistols‘ debut 1976 single ‘Anarchy In The U.K.’.The former Pistols frontman, who has led the band Public Image Ltd. since 1978, said in a new article that he’s “not an anarchist”. It’s an allusion to protest single ‘Anarchy In The U.K.’ and its lyrics: “I wanna be anarchy“.“Anarchy is a terrible idea,” he wrote in a piece for The Times.

Disney+ - but it has not been an easy road to get here.Pistol, a new biopic six-part mini series by Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle, is based on a 2016 memoir by band member Steve Jones called Lonely Boy: Tales From A Sex Pistol.However, it recently became the subject of a court battle between The Sex Pistols band members, after singer John Lydon wanted to prevent the band's songs being used in the programme.As Pistol drops on Disney+, Daily Star has taken a closer look inside The Sex Pistols feud.In 2021, Sex Pistols singer John Lydon took his fellow band members to court, in a legal battle over the use of the band's music in the new mini series Pistol.He wanted to block the makers of Pistol from using their music in the series, but instead, band members Steve Jones and Paul Cook sued the singer in order for the songs to be used.In court, guitarist Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook argued that, under the terms of a band agreement made in 1998, decisions regarding licensing requests could be determined on a 'majority rules basis'.However, John Lydon argued that licences could not be granted without his consent.A High Court judge later ruled they could invoke majority voting rights and the music was approved for use in the series.A joint statement by Steve Jones and Paul Cook following the ruling, read: "It brings clarity to our decision-making and upholds the band members’ agreement on collective decision-making."It has not been a pleasant experience, but we believe it was necessary to allow us to move forward and hopefully work together in the future with better relations."Following the court ruling, each of the band members had very different reactions to the ruling - from anger, to regret

Sex Pistols have released their ‘Pistol Mint Commemorative Coin’ today (May 30) ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee on Friday (June 3).The nickel-plated coin features artist Jamie Reid’s Union Jack flag design on the front, with a high quality decal of his depiction of the Queen sporting a lip piercing on the back.It comes days after the band reissued their controversial 1977 single ‘God Save The Queen’, which includes the lyrics “God save the queen / She ain’t no human being / And there is no future / In England’s dreaming.” The single was seen as an anti-monarchy protest song, released around the time of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in the summer of ’77.Despite being banned by the BBC at the time, the song reached Number One on the NME chart and Number Two on the UK’s singles chart (the track was listed as a blank on the latter to avoid causing offence).The commemorative coin (available here until the end of June), which marks the Queen’s 70th year on the throne, comes in a cushioned sapphire velvet presentation box with the front face design embossed in silver.
