A seven-year-old boy has died following a house explosion in Newcastle. Six people were rushed to hospital after the incident that occurred Violet Close in the early hours of Wednesday morning (October 16).
Superintendent Darren Adams of Northumbria Police said the boy had died at the scene, and the people taken to hospital had suffered 'varying injuries'.
A number of homes in the area have been evacuated. Speaking to reporters at the scene, Superintendent Adams said it had been a “truly devastating outcome”.
He said a number of other people had been evacuated from their homes, and an investigation was now under way into the cause of the explosion.
