Scottish Government announces 22 deaths and 7,144 covid cases in last 24 hours

The Scottish Government have confirmed 22 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The latest figures for Scotland also showed 7,144 new cases had also been identified overnight.There are currently 944 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 22 being treated in intensive care.So far 4,429,979 people have received their first dose of a vaccination, 4,146,918 their second , and 3,371,691 a third dose or booster.

It comes as Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed that children aged between five to 11-years-old will be offered the Covid-19 vaccine.

The First Minister made the decision following the recommendation from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).Although the JCVI has not yet published official guidance, the Scottish Government confirmed it has received “draft” advice which will be accepted.Plans are being put in place with health boards to deliver the vaccines to those not already in the process of being vaccinated because of medical conditions putting them at greater risk or who lives.
