The Scottish Government has confirmed that 21 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The latest figures for Scotland showed that 7,497 new cases had also been identified overnight. There are currently 1,191 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus with 18 being treated in intensive care.To date 4,436,511 people have received their first vaccination with 4,157,929 having a second jab and 3,434,063 have received a third dose or booster. It comes as two major covid restrictions were lifted in Scotland yesterday after almost two years.Pupils and staff in schools will no longer be required to wear face masks when in classrooms. However, guidance states face coverings should still be worn in "indoor communal areas" such as in corridors.Meanwhile, the legal requirement to show a Covid vaccine certification or a record of a negative test is lifted. This means that businesses will no longer need to ask attendees for proof of vaccination or negative test (lateral flow or PCR).It follows widespread criticism of the scheme by the nighttime industry but businesses may choose to do so if they wish. The moves mark a big step further to 'normality' with other measures also scheduled to be lifted on March 21.
