Scots Tory chief Douglas Ross claims South Ayrshire Council's leader is the man to take back one of the party's target seats at the next General Election.
Martin Dowey will contest the Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock seat when voters go to the polls.Dowey, who heads the local administration, has insisted he is prepared to split his time by remaining as a councillor and serving as a Westminster MP should he reclaim the seat won by the SNP's Allan Dorans in 2019.
On a visit to Ayr on Friday, the party's leader north of the border claims Dowey is among a list of high profile candidates whom the party are looking to build their next election campaign around.Ross said: "I was already a councillor when I stood for Westminster and I think it gives you a great insight in terms of what actually matters to the people of the area.
Being council leader, Martin knows the issues that need to be raised in this area better than anyone - it puts him in the perfect place to bring them to the table in the UK Parliament.
