Scots teen who fell into coma in Spain woke up to ask about beloved football team

A Scots teenager who was put into a medically-induced coma after becoming ill on holiday woke up in hospital to ask when her favourite football team play next.

Bryony Duthie, 18, from Dundee, developed pneumonia while on a family holiday in Spain. She arrived back in the UK after her relatives fundraised more than £80,000 to cover her medical bills and charter a flight home.

She suffers from a rare chronic kidney condition, and had to be brought to Edinburgh from Malaga in a coma on a chartered £33,000 IAS Medical air ambulance flight, accompanied by her mother Stephanie and medical staff, and taken to Ninewells Hospital And when she was taken off life support at the Dundee hospital and regained consciousness, she asked when her beloved Dundee FC are playing.

Mum Stephanie said her daughter is breathing for herself, and getting back to Dens Park to see her team play was a priority.In an update reported by The Courier Stephanie said: "One of the first things she asked was, 'when are Dundee playing?’" Stephanie said the progress the former Monifieth High School pupil had made in the past few days had left her "speechless" after the worry since she fell unwell.She said: “Doctors took Bryony off the life support machine to see if she can breathe for herself.“I am so pleased to be able to tell everyone that she has done amazing and can not only breathe for herself, but she can also talk.
