Scots schoolboys are being forced to go to school in their mum’s coats as the crippling cost of living sends the price of warm clothes skyrocketing.
Uniform banks have reported harrowing cases of poverty as they watch the price of items such as jackets increase by up to £10 on last year.
Banks across the country told us how they are working to reach as many youngsters as possible this winter as they launch a series of urgent warm clothes appeals for struggling families.
Margaret Civval, chair of the Edinburgh School Uniform Bank, said: “We know teenage boys are turning up to school in women’s coats because mums have said, ‘You’re not going out without one’.
