A mum who struggled to get into a dodgem car shed more than 100lb after doctors warned her that she was too fat. Stella Houliotis had struggled with her weight for years and her 12-year-old son Krish had never seen her slim. Her GP did a routine blood test for an eczema condition and realised Stella had high cholesterol, which set her on a weight-loss path.

The 56-year-old, from Castlemilk, Glasgow, had also been suffering from joint pain in her hips and knees and admitted: “Everyday life was becoming a little more difficult.“I was tired, lethargic and lost my confidence.

My blood pressure was higher than I would have liked and I was advised if my weight continued to increase then medication was the only way to go.” Because of her medical issues and a family history of heart disease, her GP suggested the Weight Watchers health referral scheme and in September last year she began their eating plan.

At her first weigh-in she tipped the scales at 19st 2lb. Just over a year later, she is now 11st 8.5lb. Before Stella began to lose weight she couldn’t go upstairs without being out of breath but now walks miles, does aqua aerobics and has joined a gym.
