A mum diagnosed with terminal cancer said she is “determined” to push forward research into the disease and help with advances in treatment to give herself and others like her some “hope”.Sarah McDiarmid has now raised a staggering £22,110 for a charity close to her heart – after initially aiming to raise £1,000.Sarah, a 40-year-old depute head at Wallace Hall Primary in Thornhill, was diagnosed during the first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 and, after 16 months of treatment, was given the all-clear only to get a secondary devastating diagnosis this February.Her husband, Tommy, a postie in Lockerbie, wanted to do something positive for the charity Breast Cancer Now so the family decided to do a 10-mile sponsored walk and fun day.Sarah, mum to seven-year-old son, Harry, and daughter, Ella, four, said: “We had a fantastic day and were very well supported with more than 120 people joining our sponsored walk from Lockerbie Delivery Office to Johnstonebridge Community Centre.

It was amazing to see the line of pink stretching out ahead of us.“A huge team of people helped to ensure the day ran smoothly and we were so grateful to everyone who helped including the staff and volunteers at the Johnstonebridge Centre, and family and friends who all contributed to making the event a huge success.“We were delighted to raise £5,114 on the day, and now that most of the sponsor money has been added to JustGiving, the combined total is sitting at £22,120, which is phenomenal considering we were initially aiming to raise £1,000.“We really hope that this money can be put to good use in supporting Breast Cancer Now to continue with their scientific research into kinder treatments and exploring future treatment options, which will give us more
