Scots man extradited from Netherlands to face serious organised crime charges alongside murder suspect

A man has arrived back in Scotland to face serious organised crime charges after being found in the Netherlands. Jamie Stevenson, 57, arrested in Amsterdam at around midday on Friday, February 4.

Detectives from the National Crime Agency and Police Scotland were keen to speak with him in connection with alleged drug offences as well as wilful fire-raising charges.

He was arrested on an international warrant and is expected to appear in court soon.A second man, who has been charged in connection with the death of BillyJoe Bates, was also extradited from the Netherlands.Dean Ferguson, 30, was wanted by police in connection with the alleged murder of BillyJoe, 28, who died in November 2018.He was found seriously injured on Ashfield Street in the Milton area of Glasgow before being rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.He lost his fight for life four days later on November 22 sparking a major murder probe.The exact date of the duo’s court appearances has not been confirmed.A statement from Police Scotland said: “Two men extradited back to Scotland from The Netherlands are due to appear in court.“A 30-year man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of BillyJoe Bates, who died in the Milton area of Glasgow in November 2018.“A 57-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with drugs, serious organised crime and wilful fire-raising offences.“Both men had been arrested on international warrants and will appear in court in due course.” Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - Sign up to our daily newsletter here .
