Scots Lidl store ceiling collapses in thunderstorm as customers scream and flee

Footage shows the moment the ceiling of a new Lidl supermarket in Edinburgh collapsed during a thunderstorm. The Costorphine store, which has been open for three weeks, was forced to close on Tuesday night after a downpour caused parts of the roof to crumble onto the floor.

Water poured through the gaps in the roof during the storm as screaming customers fled the store to avoid the debris and rainwater.

The footage uploaded by local woman Tamara Edgerton shows water pouring down from the roof, and parts of the ceiling already beginning to fall to the floor.

People can be heard outside the store shouting as ceiling tiles fall to the ground and one woman can be heard saying "this is shocking."Another clip shows the full extent of the damage to the roof inside the shop, with a long line of panels missing stretching the length of the store.The video on Facebook has already nearly 300 shares and has been viewed over 20,000 times.Speaking to the Record Tamara said shoppers had to abandon their items and flee the store and said the staff seemed stunned but helped to escort people outside to safety via an emergency exit.Punters lined up to reply to her post and comment on the state of the new shop.A local commented: "This place has only been open for a few weeks as well."One woman said: "This is so bad.
