Scots lawyer charged with drug offences after allegations he was caught with cocaine at court

A HIGH-PROFILE criminal lawyer has been charged by police after he was allegedly caught with cocaine in Scotland’s High Court.The 46-year-old is accused of being in possession of the class A drug at the High Court of Glasgow on July 31.Court staff claim the drugs were found during a security check when the lawyer entered the court building last month to represent a client.The matter was then brought to the attention of police.A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 46-year-old man was charged in connection with drugs offences at the High Court in Glasgow on Wednesday, 31 July.

A report was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”The man, who comes from a well- known legal family, has appeared in criminal trials across Scotland and also specialises in road traffic cases.It is understood he is able to continue to practise and represent clients while the charges against him are being considered by prosecutors.The High Court of Justiciary hears the country’s most serious cases, including all cases of rape and murder.

It has airport-style security.Members of the public, accused persons, witnesses, and other visitors are regularly subjected to searches for illegal items including weapons. The solicitor denied any impropriety and claimed he was not aware of any drugs charges or possible criminal proceedings.The lawyer said: “There is an investigation ongoing just now and until that is concluded I am not prepared to talk about it.“I can categorically tell you there were no drugs found on my person.“There was nothing found on my person.
