Scots campaign groups says LEZ 'not enough' as they call for further measures

Concerned families are urging people to support Glasgow's low-emission zone (LEZ) but they say it is not enough as they call for the city's 'toxic air' to be urgently tackled.Parents for Future Scotland is urging Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government to take further action in combating environmental issues and implementing eco-friendly measures.

They join a number of other campaign groups and worried parents who are calling for the council and government to implement measures while the LEZ is under judicial review, Glasgow Live reports.They say school streets closure programmes should be funded and publicised, as well as a city-wide 20mph speed limit and the ban on pavement parking and idling.Member of Parents for Future Scotland Sam Bartlett said: “This is a public health emergency, and politicians need to show leadership by prioritising far better pollution-cutting legislation, active travel and public transport."Sam has a 14-year-old daughter Florence who suffers from asthma.

Hillhead High pupil Florence said: “Having asthma is frightening – it feels like someone is sitting on your chest and you can’t take full breaths.

I walk to and from school, and see lots of cars, especially around some schools, and I usually have to take my inhaler – I guess it’s the fumes making me feel breathless."The roads are so full of cars, and you see drivers jumping red lights a few times every week, like they’re rushing to drop off their kids without thinking of others.
