New research has revealed which areas of Scotland have been written about the the most in literature.It is hardly a secret that Scotland has captivated writers for hundreds of years.
Whether it is the dramatic moors of the Highlands or the historic abbeys of the Borders, every part of the country has inspired countless classic stories.A recent study by VisitScotland has named which parts of the country are especially popular amongst authors.
The experts investigated the Goodreads database to put together the ranking, revealing that Scotland as a whole has served as the setting for more than 11,500 books.Topping the list, with an incredible 2,815 books set against its picturesque backdrop, is the Scottish Highlands.
According to the findings, the highest-rated books by readers on Goodreads are the first two novels in the Outlander series, in which Diana Gabaldon brought the Highlands to life and transported readers to 18th-century Scotland.
