The Lord Advocate is coming under pressure to invoke powers which could immediately quash convictions of subpostmasters caught up in the Horizon IT scandal.
A retired sheriff and campaigning MSP have asked Dorothy Bain to present a petition to the criminal court of appeal with a list of cases.
The petition would ask the court to overturn the convictions and prevent the need for legislation which is currently at the centre of a political wrangle between the Scottish and UK governments.Retired sheriff Kevin Drummond KC said Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain could take the steps now right now to overturn all the wrongful convictions.Drummond said: “There is no reason why the Lord Advocate can’t present a petiton to the criminal appeal court tomorrow with the cases that she has decided are Horizon cases.
And invite the court to overturn each of these because it was a conviction whch investigation has revealed was secured on the basis of flawed evidence.
