Teenager in court charged with murder after death of Greenock dad Michael Beaton

A teenager has appeared in court charged with murder after the death of Greenock dad Michael Beaton.Richard Mullen, 19, was also charged with attempted murder and an attempt to defeat the ends of justice.

He made no plea during the private hearing at Greenock Sheriff Court on Friday, April 5.He was remanded in custody with the case against him submitted for further examination by prosecutors.Mullen became the third person charged in connection with the death of 35-year-old Michael on November 26 last year.He was found seriously injured on Drumfrochar Road in Greenock at around 7.20pm before being rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Police Scotland previously confirmed they were treating his death as murder.A probe was launched with officers attempting to trace a white Audi Q2 which was believed to have been involved.Alexander McQuillan, 25, previously appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court charged with murder.

McQuillan, from Greenock, was also charged with allegedly stealing a car and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.Lewis Wiggins, 22, was also charged in connection with Mr Beaton's death.
