Scotland's "best market town" has been named - and it looks like a book-lover's paradise.Earlier this month, The Telegraph published a list of "the 12 best market towns in Britain".

The newspaper singled out towns from all across the nation, based on factors such as the number of antique shops and the quality of pubs. The only Scottish destination to feature on the list is Wigtown in Dumfries and Galloway.

The Telegraph applauded the town as a "quiet bibliophile’s heaven" that is "jam-packed with stores selling books old and new".Situated east of Stranraer and south of Newton Stewart, Wigtown is nestled along the coast with gorgeous views out over the water.

It is situated by the Wigtown Bay Local Nature Reserve, which is the largest of its kind in Britain.Officially named Scotland's National Book Town in 1998, is home to a wide variety of shops selling both new and second-hand books.
