Scotland faces yellow ice warning as roads close due to weather

The Met Office has issued a warning for ice after heavy snowfall hit the country and even forced a Scots ski centre to close.There were initially concerns for the 60mph winds hitting the country but a predications for snow also became a reality as snow gates were closed on the A93 at Spittal of Glenshee and Braemar.

The Lecht ski centre in Aberdeenshire closed due to drifting snow on Sunday night with the operators saying it will not resume for snow sports until Boxing Day, reports the S.D.E.A yellow warning for ice has now been issued for large parts of northern Scotland from 9pm on Sunday, December 22 until 10am on Monday, December 23.

The Met Office said showers will continue into the first part of Sunday night before dying out later.As skies clear and winds ease, "temperatures will fall quickly, leading to some icy patches developing on untreated roads, footpaths and cycle paths".

The Met Office expects icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths while injuries from slips and falls in icy surfaces are expected.Travel disruption is expected to continue into Monday after gusting winds of over 80mph through the weekend.
