EXCLUSIVE: Academy-Award winner Sam Mendes is to sit in the documentary directors’ chair for the first time.

Mendes is directing a BBC doc telling the story of two members of the British Army’s Film & Photographic Unit who accompanied the troops liberating the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

What They Found will air on BBC Two and iPlayer in April to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the notorious camp.

Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn’s Man On Wire banner Lightbox is producing in association with Neal Street, Mendes and Pippa Harris’ production outfit, and the UK’s vaunted Imperial War Museums.
