Taron Egerton thriller Carry-On was Netflix’s most watched movie in the second half of 2024, according to statistic provided by the streaming service in a new report.The twice-yearly engagement report, titled What We Watched, calculates views by dividing total hours viewed by runtime.
Carry-On, a Die Hard-style thriller set in an airport, drew over 137Million views, topping the list of most watched films.Action dominated the top four, with The Union starring Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg coming second with 131Million, Rebel Ridge third with 129Million, and Eddie Murphy sequel Beverly Hill Cop: Axel F fourth with just over 97Million.Lindsay Lohan comedy Our Little Secret was fifth with 81Million, family musical Sing: Thriller sixth with 77Million, and Nicole Kidman/Zac Efron romantic comedy A Family Affair was seventh with 74Million.Rounding our the top ten was sci-fi drama Uglies (72Million), Sam Raimi produced thriller Don’t Move (69Million), and Christmas classic Dr Zeuss’ The Grinch (66Million).Surprisingly, Emilia Pérez, which earned 13 Oscar nominations including Best Picture, was nowhere near the top ten.
While it was released in November on the streaming service, it finished 1,778th out of 8,686 features viewed from July to December.
Angelina Jolie’s biopic Maria also faired poorly, drawing just 800,000 views.The report boasted a 5 per cent increase of viewing time for Netflix, totalling over 94Billion hours watched across all programming.
