The council has thrown its weight behind a pay claim submitted by trade unions UNISON, GMB and Unite on behalf of council and school workers.
It calls for a 'substantial increase' with a minimum of a 10 pc uplift from April. But Salford councillors say local authorities cannot afford to cover the cost following 10 years of austerity leading to council cuts of more than 50 pc.
