Sainsbury's will introduce a major shakeup to its own-brand milk range, affecting 44 products in total. The major supermarket chain will swap use-by-date for best-before dates for a wide range of milk products, including all fresh and organic milk sold across England, Scotland, and Wales, applying to over 730 million pints of milk sold by Saisnbury's every year.

It comes after research from WRAP demonstrated that milk is the third most wasted food in the UK with over 490 million pints thrown away each year - often due to the use-by-date.

The new labelling system will roll out in the new year, with the change to be fully implemented by the end of February 2024, according to Sainsbury's Try MEN Premium for FREE by clicking here for no ads, fun puzzles and brilliant new features Ruth Cranston, Director of Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability at Sainsbury’s, said: “Around a third of all food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted.

Combatting food waste is one of our top priorities and we are continuously innovating to tackle this issue, all the way from farms and suppliers, right to our customers’ homes.
