Holidaymakers were left sitting on the runway in a sweltering hot plane for hours after the jet's air conditioning system broke down.
After an excruciating five hour wait, the Ryanair flight from Tenerife to Manchester was cancelled. One passenger has claimed that, with temperatures outside in the high 20s, his right foot became badly swollen and inflamed.
He said: "I looked down and I could just see it getting bigger and bigger. "It was just horrendous. There were really young children who were screaming.
