The mother of a young woman who tragically ended her own life after enduring domestic abuse from her boyfriend has said she feels 'robbed of a daughter'.
Angela Dawes penned a poignant impact statement, which was read in full as Ryan Wellings received a six-year prison sentence for assaulting and coercively controlling Angela's daughter, Kiena.
Kiena, 23, took her own life on a railway line near Garstang, leaving behind her nine-month-old baby girl. In a note found on her mobile phone, she claimed she had been 'tortured' and 'bullied to death' by Wellings.
Despite a six-week trial at Preston Crown Court, Wellings was acquitted of manslaughter. However, the jury did find him guilty of controlling and coercive behaviour towards Kiena throughout their two-and-a-half-year relationship.
