Rutherglen family blast sewage leak polluting garden with faeces and used tampons

A Rutherglen family have hit out over sewage that has been leaking through their garden and down the street for nine months – and they are finding ‘faeces’ and ‘used tampons’ daily.Louise Morgan-Smyth, who lives with her husband John and their two girls Morven, 11, and Madeleine, 8, at Lochbrae Drive, first saw sewage running through her garden in June 2022.The family, who now can only access their house via one entrance, have said that despite Scottish Water coming out on numerous occasions to fix the problem, they are still burdened by it.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

It is terrible.“I have faeces, used tampons and all sorts in our garden dripping down our steps and flowing right down to the bottom of the street, where there is now a massive puddle of god knows what collected there now.“We are frightened to use the toilets because whatever we flush, we are scared will flow into our garden.

It doesn’t stop, it is constantly flowing like a river.“There is a nursery and a residential assisted living for elderly people on our street, so children and vulnerable people are trailing through this everyday.
